Wyrdsystyr is Lexi C.M.K Turner. She has been described as a “cultural thanatologist,” who puts theory and philosophy in relation to creative responses to governmentality in an ungovernable world. Hir interests include, but are not limited to: postmodernism, new / gothic materialism, philosophy of horror / horror of philosophy, extreme music (black metal / harsh noise theory), narcoanalysis, necropolitics, queer monstrosity, dark media, epistemologies of violence, environmental humanities and postanarchism.
Ze was frontwoman of psychedelic noise rock outfit Lillian Gish, and related side-projects l’inconnue de la seine and Falling Masks. She has DJ’d techno, darkside jungle, and avant-garde sets as Black, MA, and is currently making noise music under the monikers And the Maiden and Prayer Rope. Ze was at one point band manager for the garage punk Queenadreena side-project The Dogbones.
Originally from London, England, Lexi currently resides in Ithaca, New York, as a PhD student in Cornell’s department of Performing and Media Arts.
